Limits

I recently read something on line which peaked my interest. This particular individual believed that a slave had no limites; not if she was a true slave. This statement made me stand back and think. I was perplexed how someone could come to that conclusion. It made me re-evaluate what I believed on this matter.

Does a true slave have limits? Her desire is to serve her Master fully. Along the same lines, her place is to do whatever her Master desires. Once she submits, her life is no longer her own. With this reasoning, and up to this point, I can see how the above belief is correct.

However, there seems to be one fact that this individual was missing. A slaves place is to do whatever her Master desires if she is capable. This addition changes the situation a great deal. A slave might not be able to perform certain tasks. Of course, if it is something that she requires some training, then it might be an activity which she can learn. Yet, there are certain things that one might not be able to do no matter what her willingness. A Master needs to be aware of these.

Here are some examples slaves might have a tough time fulfilling if requested: dunking a basketball, performing brain surgery, rebuilding a car engine, solving mathematical equations, or translating an ancient text written in arabic. Even those her willingness might be complete, there are challenges which might not be overcome. Simply, the knowledge base isn’t there.

Here is another situation which is more applicable. Often a Master will ask a slave to perform some sexual activities which she is physically unable to do. An individual with a back issue comes to mind. Again, the person might have all the desire to do what her Master wants. However, physical limitations can exist. For a Master to push her past this is irresponsible and potentially dangerous. This is one of those situations where a Master needs to know to pull back.

So, a slave can and will have limitations. Even thought she exchange all her power, her trust is that her Master will act responsibly. One of the roles of a Master is to help her uncover her limits, try to push past them, and pull back when she cannot go further.

Good article about slaves

First of all... I very much dislike the qualifier "true" being added to any title... it adds an aire of objective reality to something that is ultimately a subjective experience. I usually reject any arguments right at the get-go when I see that term used.

But, as far as the article... I disagree. I don't think it is impossible for a slave to have no limits with their master. Limits like "I don't know how to do brain surgery", are not limits the slave is imposing on the master, they are limits the universe is imposing on _both_ the Master and the slave. Likewise the Master could not tell the slave to levitate off the ground and realistically expect it to happen.

In the contract I signed in April of last year, it had some provision for that fact... like that the master accepts the laws of reality and that I am human, and my experience and knowledge is limited, ect ect... and that the master won't punish the slave for something that is beyond her control. Otherwise known as the "shit happens" clause.

And while it is important for the master to not be an asshole or an idiot when it comes to what they require their slave to do I would not call someone a Master if they were.

Most of the people (whom I have met) who have been around the block enough times with this argument will eventually change their explanation of limits from "I have no limits" to something along the lines of "I have no limits except for those my Master sets for me" or "my limits are my master's limits".

The fact of the universe is that there are things that any one individual simply can not do... and for most people with a conscience, there are things they are simply unwilling to do... murder comes to mind. So, in order to be a slave who does not impose any limits on their master, you have to find a master who already has those limits self-imposed... so the master will never ask you to murder someone, and will never ask you to levitate off the ground, and will never ask you to do any of those things that you can't do or are morally opposed to doing. If one trusts their master 100% with that then one can say "I give all my limits to you" because the slave knows in their heart of hearts that the situation where they have to pick between their obedience and their morals will never come up.

It goes to those hyperbolic questions of "what if he was gonna cut off your arm?!" To which the answer is "well, I trust that's not going to happen, and if it did, he would be breaking his responsibility as my master to look out for my best interests/ wellbeing, and so would have ceased being my master at that point anyway, so I would have no obligation to obey him anymore."

So, there are some folks who would say that the fact that the master should not order the slave to do something that the slave is completely incapable of doing... is such an obvious fact that it's not even worth mentioning within the conversation of limits.

So, in other, simpler terms... "duh".

Interesting points expressed in the article.

I am in full agreement with viv. I have the right to cut off my slave's arm and she fully asknowledges that. But I will never ask her to prove it because I know I can do it but it would damage my girl and minimize the work that she can do for me so I would be hurting myself and that is inconceivable.

As a young dom, some 40 years ago, I thought all D/s relationships centered on breaking down the "s"'s limits. It took a few years to learn to accept that a Dom(me)has to possess the wisdom to accept that some things are as much His/Her limitations as they are the slave. viv is right, we all have physical limits it isn't possible to change, does that make a bad slave, no it makes her unique. Cherish her for that uniqueness, accept her gift of submission and run with it. Life is too short to waste on trivial matters.
